The new promo of her TV show has fans all over the world excited about seeing Priyanka Chopra in her FBI agent avatar again. She has vowed the world with her acting talent, singing and dazzling beauty. One side of her that doesn’t get noticed very often, though, is Pee Cee’s involvement with several social causes especially education of the girl child.
For the last ten years, ten percent of her earnings go into running The Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education. Through this organisation, she works towards providing education and health related facilities to kids from underprivileged background. She had begun this work after realizing that the son of her maid went to school but not the daughter.
Since 2008, Priyanka has also been a goodwill ambassador of UNICEF, promoting children’s rights and girls’ education in this role. Other causes that she has supported and spoken about include gender equality, racial discrimination, genital mutilation and female infanticide. Organisations that she has supported over the years include Cancer Patients’ Aids Association, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Nanhi Kali.
Besides making public speeches about important issues, Ms Chopra has also been doing many philanthropic endeavors on her own. In 2010, she had adopted seven Indian villages with the aim of supplying electricity to them. No wonder than that India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose Priyanka as one of the nine people to endorse Swachha Bharat Abhiyaan, a national cleanliness campaign run by the Government of India.
